A newbie to the World of Warcraft would want all the orientation that could be had, this Shaman guide is to help the player smoothly into the complex but fun game of the World of Warcraft so far as the Shaman is concerned. So what exactly are the Shamans?

The Shaman in the World of Warcraft is a hybrid damage dealer that possesses an assortment of attributes and could play simultaneous roles. The Shamans could play as the healer, as the warrior and could create damage to groups even from a distance. As they could perform all these, they are often considered very versatile and multi-functional. Even with these attributes, the Shamans are not actually better than other characters. Even so, the Shaman’s contribution to the game will be appreciated, even sought after, as the game progresses. A Shaman for instance cannot fight as well as a warrior does. It can’t heal faster than the Priest or fight well from a distance like the Warlocks. Because the Shaman has a mix of attributes, it makes for good standalone character in the game. It is very important to have a Shaman by your side as the game progresses as its abilities are increased.

Attributes that characterize the Shaman:

{The Totem} – The totem defines the Shaman which it gets after undergoing a set of quests that has to be completed. There are various totems that a Shaman acquires and the totems are based on the race that was chosen; the totems have their own potencies and could spell a good amount of damage when the proper totem is selected. When the totem is engaged, the Shaman will only be on a stationary position, its spell then only affects those that are within the totem’s range. This seeming disadvantage though could be offset when the Shaman uses up to four different totems with different attributes at the same moment. Care is also to be observed in developing the Shamans’ abilities through his totems. Depending on how the talent points that are earned and spent will define the capability of the Shaman and could very well influence the results of the game. As there is no ideal development for the Shaman, to focus heavily on one tree could diminish his ability in other areas. In developing the Shaman the player must first adopt a strategy on how the Shaman will be played as this will greatly affect his affectivity especially during the end games.

{Spells} – The Shaman’s spells are based on the elements. Used well, it could cast weapons buffs, healing and damage.

{Talents} – The Elemental talents are mainly for advancements of the offensive atacks. The development of this talent then is when you want your Shaman to gain maximum damage output and critical strikes.

Enhancement talents are used when you want to be effective at melees and for totem enhancements. Because mana is not used in casting spells during the earlier stages of the game, this is a preferred mana talent when only starting. On later portions of the game, other more powerful weapons are learned and earned.

The Restoration talents are largely used for healing and restoration. Multi-level heal spells though could be obtainable to the Shaman as the game progresses and as more talents are earned.

Often, the Shaman is the least appreciated character in the earlier parts of the game. Partly, this is because the Shaman could be considered as a ‘jack of all trades’ and has no specific specialty at any one function. This Shaman guide then might help the player as it is in the later stages of the game where the abilities of the Shaman are actually sought after and respected.

Born from large gatherings and events full of fanatical anime fans, Cosplay Character has become an international hobby with thousands of followers. As Anime has grown in popularity in the past two decades so has the hobby of cosplay. Cosplay is derived from the English words ‘costume’ and ‘play’ and is used to describe the hobby of crafting highly detailed and accurate costumes of beloved anime and manga characters.

In areas such as the Akihabara district in Japan, cosplay has become an extremely popular and commonly exhibited pastime. In public settings such as parties, nightclubs and video games show, cosplay is a common sight. Some areas have even begun to see the emergence of cosplay cafes and venues that cater exclusively to costly.

Attention to detail is perhaps the most challenging and important part of a cosplay costume. The accurate depiction of the Manga character being portrayed is the most critical part of the costume itself. At many anime conventions there are contests where the accuracy and creativity of cosplay costumes are judged and winners are awarded based on their costume’s accurate depiction of character.

Very much different than Halloween costumes, the goal of a cosplay costume is to literally become the character that is being depicted. For this reason cosplay costumes tend to be extremely elaborate and even simple costumes may take months of research and crafting to make properly. Many costume makers will employ many doctrines of craftsmanship to get the proper texture, look and feel of the specific character they want to cosplay as.

The trends that guide Amazing Cosplay are always changing. Every few months as new anime series come out the characters and costumes of cosplay shift and change. More recently even some non-anime films have become the focus of many fan’s cosplay costumes. Draco Malfoy of the Harry Potter series and a variety of characters from Star Wars are prime examples of recently popular non-anime costumes.

Evolving from within the hobby of cosplay itself are some subset groups of enthusiasts who have taken cosplay in new directions. Crossplay for example is a type of cosplay where the players themselves dress up as characters of the opposite sex. However since anime tends to feature characters wearing a variety of unique and not necessarily gender-specific clothing, this is not seen as all that odd.

Cosplay has grown so much in popularity that in its modern incarnation, Popular Cosplay has magazines and websites devoted to it. These resources feature detailed instructions on costume making and materials as well as images of costumes from past conventions. Conventions routinely allow ‘cameko’ or ‘camera boy’ photographers who dedicate themselves to photographing cosplay events.

With Anime being drastically on the rise in the last two decades, Manga and Cosplay fandom has only increased. The diligent services that cosplay fans put into their hobby as they toil for months on costumes is second to none. With finely honed craftsmanship and a precise attention to detail, Cosplay is a fascinating art form that incorporates many forms of art and culture related to anime videos while providing a fun and social hobby for thousands.

Coldplay is a British Alternative Rock band, which was created in 1996 in London, England. The group is comprised of Chris Martin (lead vocals), Jonny Buckland (lead guitarist), Guy Berryman (bass guitar) and Will Champion (drums, various percussion instruments and backup vocals).

While attending the University College London in 1996, classmates Chris Martin and Jonny Buckland decided to form a band and began to recruit members. By 1997 Guy Berryman and Will Champion had joined and completed the alternative rock quartet called Coldplay. The group started recording for the first time in 1998 and by the end of the year they had signed with a small independent label called Fierce Panda. After completing final examinations in 1999, Coldplay signed a five album contract with major record label Parlophone. The record company is most recognized for signing the Beatles, and it was a major success for Coldplay.

They began recording their debut album Parachutes, and while releasing EP’s and gaining some recognition through the airplay they received on local radio stations. In March of 2000 Coldplay finally hit the top 40 singles at number 35 with a release called “Shiver”. Because of this song, they received their first airplay on the popular music television channel MTV. In June of 2000 Coldplay released their second single “Yellow” and gained instant success across the UK. After considerable success in Britain and parts of Europe, Coldplay decided to release their album Parachutes in North America in November of 2000. The band and their debut album were received well in North America, especially so in Canada. Although America did not take to the band quickly, by 2002 Coldplay was awarded Best Alternative Music Album at the Grammy Awards.

Coldplay returned to the studios to record their second album A Rush of Blood to the Head in October 2001. The album was released in August of 2002 and contained what would become immensely popular singles, “In My Place”, “Clocks” and “The Scientist”. Many of these songs also became part of the soundtracks of popular television shows as well as major films such as Peter Pan. The band toured extensively and visited five continents between 2002 and 2003 and even recorded a live CD album and DVD while performing at Sydney’s Hordern Pavilion in 2003. Coldplay won the Best Alternative Music Album award at the 2003 Grammy Awards, and then won Best Album at the 2004 Grammy Awards.

During 2004 Coldplay took a step out of the limelight and toured lightly, while simultaneously working on their upcoming album X&Y. The quartet’s third CD X&Y was released in 2005 and became 2005’s bestselling album. This particular CD was anxiously anticipated by fans worldwide since several years had passed since the release of their second album. Despite the record sales upon the release, there were many mixed reviews, one of the most notable by New York Times critic Jon Pareles who described Coldplay as “the most insufferable band of the decade”. Coldplay continued to release singles from their album without much enthusiasm from fans.

Coldplay returned to the studios yet again to record their fourth studio album, with some attempt to reclaim the fame that they had lost on their previous CD X&Y. Singles from the album titled Viva la Vida, or Death and All of His Friends were first released beginning in late April of 2008. Once the CD was released it achieved immense success. Coldplay has been touring since the release of Viva la Vida or Death and All of His Friends, and there is even a rumor of the band recording yet another album to be released in late 2009 or at the beginning of 2010.

Online is not just for watching videos or listening to music. There are several ways to read comic books online, too. Fans can check databases to buy what is missing in their collections, they can preview a free comic book before buying or they can digitally download books for their computer, their iPod/iPhone or their Nintendo DS. The comic book industry is even experimenting with creating DVD-versions of their best comic series, which will offer yet another way to share the stories.

Many fans just want to read comics for free. After all, that’s what the internet and peer-to-peer is all about, right? There are a few databases offering graphic novels for free. Manga comics, like Naruto, Bleach, Love Junkies, Pokemon and Vampire Knight can be found at www.mangafox.com and www.mangavolume.com, for instance.
The $1.99 “ComicZeal” program allows iPhone and iPod Touch users to download, convert and read comic books on their portable devices! The program is fast, smooth and versatile, allowing easy resizing. Comic book series can be viewed in “landscape” or “portrait” mode and changing the page is as easy as tapping a button at the bottom of the screen. If the comic reading gets interrupted, “ComicZeal” remembers where the reader last left off. One of the best features is that the program comes with a converter so all comic files can be quickly converted to the resized format.

One more way to read comic books is in “Motion Comics” format, which includes limited movement, music, pans and zooms to bring the story to life. “We want people to see these stories through as many distribution points as possible,” explains Marvel Comic Books. Marvel has teamed up with Stephen King to create “N,” as well as the character “Ultimate Spider-Man.” DC Comics have released “Watchmen” and “Batman Adventures” as Motion Comics. These issues can be purchased for Microsoft Xbox and Verizon VCast! The world of comic book art and story telling is always growing, and it seems the new technology compliments this genre quite well.

As a busy mom and business owner, audiobooks have become one of those modern day conveniences that have added so much joy to my daily life (while they free up some of my precious time).

Here’s why I love audiobooks even more than listening to new music, and why you might want to start an audiobook habit of your own.

1. Audio books help you get monotonous tasks get done. When I have something to do that I dread (repainting the living room, for example) I always treat myself to a brand new audiobook download from audible, where I have a monthly membership that allows me to download two books each month. A fresh new audio book really helps motivate me to do those tasks, large and small, that I simply don’t like. Once you’re into a juicy novel, the time just flies by. The latest version of Amazon’s new wireless reading device will even read to you.

2. They make great use of car time. If you have a long commute, put in a seminar, a language immersion tape, or a motivational download. While listening to music is simply entertainment, by the end of a month or two with audio books you could have learned new vocabulary in a second language, gotten a better understanding of investment strategies, or have simply enjoyed a few wonderful novels.

3. Audiobooks motivate you for exercise. Dedicate an audio book that is particularly suspenseful and intriguing just for the time that you spend on the treadmill or the elliptical. You’ll be dying to get back on the machine tomorrow to find out what happens next.

4. Audiobooks helps keep your kids entertained. If you have a long road trip coming up, get a good fantasy story that you can all listen to together. When kids are listening to an audiobook, they are more likely to be entertained while still looking out the window and enjoying the scenery around them (rather than zoning out with the DVD player.) For the kids, it really helps if you can find a download with a fantastic narrator, so pay special attention to the comments from other readers before you download a book for the entire family.

5. It’s a great way to learn new things. Some people learn best by hearing information. If that’s you, you owe it to yourself to seek out information in spoken form. Even some textbooks are available in an audio format.

6. You can find and share audiobooks at low cost. Look for discounted audiobooks at used bookstores or thrift stores. Check out books on CD at your local library or online.

You can also get select titles free through Project Gutenberg as well as through LibriVox. (A quick google search will give you the direct URLs.)

You can purchase audiobooks individually through various websites, including iTunes and audible. If you find that you are downloading more than one paid audiobook each month, you’ll probably save money by paying for a monthly subscription to an audio download site, such as audible or simplyaudiobooks.

So what do people like almost as much as new music, but more than a game of Trivial Pursuit? Magic! For centuries it has puzzled us, entertained us and kept us spellbound with its apparently impossible or even supernatural tricks. A lot of skill and practice is essential to make a magic trick seem flawless, to make an illusion real, but the best magicians do it with no trouble at all.

As the audience, we know very well that we are being tricked in some way, but that’s part of the fun. Although in the past performers did claim to have supernatural powers, nowadays that’s not the case. Sleight of hand is the usual method for performing magic tricks, and we have fun trying to catch the magician out so that we can work out how the trick was done.

And still the best magicians leave us totally awestruck with their skill, leaving us completely clueless as to how they perform their illusions. The sense of bafflement is as big a part of the performance as seeing the actual magic trick.

But the reality is that learning magic tricks can be tough! It can take a lot of effort to get a trick to appear effortless. And the fact is that performing magic tricks is one thing in life you can’t fake – the audience will definitely catch on when it doesn’t work!

Unfortunately, most books or videos on the subject are filled with theory but not enough actual “real world” magic — the kind that actually entertains people! And, you practically have to be a brain surgeon to figure out the instructions.

The news isn’t all bad, though. There are some magic training books that are worth the money. For example, the author of Learn Easy Magic has collected hundreds of original magic tricks and compiled them into four amazing books!! The instructions are easy to follow, making it easy to build up your repertoire of magic tricks.

Studying to become a magician, even if it’s only to specialise in a few simple magic tricks, is a great way to entertain friends and family, as well as building your own self confidence. Info About Magic Tricks is designed to help you on your journey of discovery.

the stamps

The Stamps of China are soaked in history — from the celebration of Communism to commemorating leaders like Mao Zedong. In any country with two opposing factions and an ever-changing landscape, there’s bound to be a lot of printing errors and recalls, which makes many rare China stamps worth a considerable amount of money. While it was a slow hobby to take shape, there are now over 18 million stamp collectors in China and some very fascinating stamps to obtain.

Overprints of China stamps were common during the early 1900s. An overprint is the addition of text after a stamp has already been printed (usually to raise the price in relation to inflation). Because of the ever-changing economy, some stamps from that time period — such as the Sun Yat-sen — rose in value up into the thousands of dollars.

In November 1952, the Ministry of Post and Telecommunication released a set of four stamps to commemorate “the 35th Anniversary of the October Revolution.” The October Revolution (also known as The Bolshevik Revolution) was led by Vladimir Lenin’s Bolshevik party and the workers’ Soviets and eventually overthrew the government, making way for the USSR. The stamps were issued in celebration of the friendship between China and the Soviets. The first stamp had a picture of China’s Mao Zedong with Stalin on the Kremlin tower; the second stamp portrayed Lenin making a speech at the Second Representatives Conference of the Soviet Unions; the third stamp pictured a statue of Stalin standing at the Lenin Canal; the fourth showed Lenin making a speech. In 1997, a set of these stamps was sold at the Spring Auction of Jiade for $55,000 RMB.

One stamp issued from the collection “To Mark the 40th Anniversary of the Establishment of Jinggangshan Revolutionary Base by Chairman Mao” was recently sold at an auction in Shaghai for $1.5 Million RMB (or roughly $199,880 USD). There were originally four stamps issued, including: Chairman Mao and Lin Biao at Tian An Men, Chairman Mao and his party in Jing gang Shan, the quotation “The political power comes from guns,” and another verse by Chairman Mao. The Jianggangshan base become the birthplace of the Chinese Red Army and is often called “the cradle of the Chinese Revolution.”

In addition to the historical significance of these commemorative China stamps, the controversy surrounding the issuance caused an uproar. Production was canceled and specimens were called to be destroyed. Therefore, the Jinggangshan stamps never made it to circulation and only a very small number exist in the hands of private collectors. In September 1968, after the establishment of Cultural Revolution Revolutionary Committees, the Ministry of Posts issued the “All China Is Red” stamp.

The stamp pictured a red ocean, with workers, farmers and soldiers holding “the Quotations of Chairman Mao” and cheering; at the top, a red map of China with golden letters read “All China Is Red.” The stamps were issued in Beijing for half a day before the China Atlas Press discovered that the Xisha and Nansha archipelagoes were mistakenly missing from the map! Due to its extremely limited number, the “All China Is Red” is one of the most famous rare stamps in the world. Ten years ago, a post office sheet of 50 was displayed at the China Philatelic Expo in Guangzhou City and was considered a “national treasure,” valued at over 10,000,000 RMB.

While there is said to be about 18 million stamp collectors in China, there are millions of members in the Chinese Philatelic Society. The government is eager to begin trade with other stamp collectors, so the stamps are readily available worldwide. Ebay has a list of stamps from Asia and China stamps can also be found at the Chinese Philatelic Information site or ChineseStamps.org. Whether you’re looking for dragons or emperors, you’ll find it in China!

Another year, another Oscar ceremony. Most of the awards went according to plan. The British were the big winners on the night, with Slumdog Millionaire scooping, well, nearly everything, and Kate Winslett getting the Oscar at long last. For me though, the thing that disappointed me the most was that Mad Mickey Rourke missed out on the Best Actor Oscar, one he was expected to walk away with. For me though I was really looking forward to seeing Mickey Rourke crazy things up again with yet another slightly insane acceptance speech.

The award eventually went to Sean Penn for his brilliant portrayal of gay rights activist Harvey Milk. Look – I am not saying that Sean Penn wasn’t worthy of the accolade. Far from it – his role was as iconic as it was important. But am I the only one that just loves the crazyness that Mickey brings to the often staged and insincere PR stunt that is the Oscars?

So many of the celebrities on the red carpet turned up, as always, perfectly groomed in sponsored outfits and monotonous black tuxedos. Mickey Rourke, on the other hand, turned up in a messy looking white suit. Of course he also wore his trademark designer sunglasses which have become part of his image in the awards season. Nuttiest of all was Rourke’s “Loki the dead chihuahua” necklace in tribute to his recently deceased pet, which he pointed out to every invterviewer he spoke to!

We were due for another wacky and memorable acceptance speech if Mickey Rourke had got the award. Who knows what he would have come out with on the stage, chihuahua memorial necklace, sunglasses and all? I’ll never forget his previous antics at the Golden Globes awards. And more recently he brought the house down at the Independent Spirit awards the night before the Oscars – see the video above.

I wouldn’t be surprised if there was some political manouvering going on behind the scenes that prevented Rourke from winning. Mickey himself had predicted he woudldn’t win because he’s pissed off too many hollywood hotshots in the past. “I stupidly said acting wasn’t a job for a real man. I threatened producers, raged at directors, forgot my agent’s name. I really burned my bridges. And a lot of people have long memories,” was the eerily accurate prediction from Mickey Rourke before the awards.

You gotta give it up for the Pennster however, his speech was certainly an interesting one. To begin with his thank-you’s were directed at the Academy, whom he referred to as “commie, homo-loving sons of guns!” Penn then pulled out a small scribbled bit of paper, donned his prescription glasses, and after a few “thank you’s,” proceeded with an impassioned plea for equal rights for gays and against the ban on gay marriages. Not quite as entertaining as Mad Mickey would have been – but better than gushing and thanking his mother for bringing him into this wonderful world.

Meanwhile the Mickey Rourke comeback continues!

When you collect coins, you want to keep those coins in as mint condition as possible. Mint condition means that the coins don’t have any marks or nicks and that they look just as shiny as they did when they came off the mint. You won’t keep them in mint condition very long if you just keep them in a jar, or in a can beside or under your bed. Some people like to keep them in tiny plastic sleeves but these are hard to keep track of; especially if you have a lot of them. Instead, why not keep your coins in a coin collecting book instead of boxes? A coin book protects your coins by keeping it behind a plastic sheathe. What’s more, your coin collecting book will keep your coins together and the book is a great way to show your collection off to anyone who is curious.

Getting Started With Coin Collecting Book

Some banks sell books, especially when new coins are released. However, you can most likely get coin collecting books from the Franklin mint where the US coins are minted. There are also books sold at coin collecting shows where people love to show off their coin collections, where people love to trade and sell their coins and also love to sell coin collecting reference books where you can learn a lot about coins and coin collecting.

Coin Collecting Book: Types of Books

There are coin collecting books for just U.S. coins, there are coin collecting books for both U..S and international coins and then there are books for more historical coins, such as Roman Empire gold coins and such. There are in fact books for any type of coin you could ever think of. Don’t worry if you only have one or two coins, and not enough to fill an entire book, a book will often give you the incentive you need to get more coins so that you can fill one or even several books that will comprise your coin collection.

Coin collecting is extremely fun and it’s interesting to see the differences in the various coins used as money throughout history. Even if you only have a couple of current coins circulating today, put them in a coin collecting book and keep collecting. Soon, the book will be filled by a good number of coins to start with. Before you know it, you’ll have a collection most collectors would envy and they’ll be perfectly preserved and beautifully displayed in your various books.

The best way is to classify different sections in your book like bible coin collection, Obama coin collection or even valuable coins collection. If you are into foreign coin collecting then you can classify you coins as per country of their origin.

The economy being what it is, young couples in love are looking for ways to save money on their weddings. But that’s OK, there are plenty of resources available on the Web that will help you keep costs in line. Using the Internet will give you the confidence to know that your nuptials will be just as beautiful as a ceremony that costs a lot more.

One of your greatest resources will be the free clip art that can be sourced from the Internet. When the perfect images reveal themselves during your search, your wedding theme will begin to crystallize. Because the Web is a large place, a little help from your maid of honor or bridesmaids might be called for.

But what should you, your friends and family look for when searching for wedding clip-art? First, consider your own personal home decorating style. That should provide clues to what pleases you visually. What colors are the most prominent? Knowing what colors you like is a great place to start. Also, look at how complex or simple your decorating scheme is. Taking stock of the color and feel of your home will allow you to more easily settle on a wedding style.

Once your color scheme is nailed down to your satisfaction, you can go on the Internet and search for free vintage flowers. Why not something more along modern lines? The reason is that vintage clip art has a classic look that makes designing a wedding theme easy.

To create a look that’s completely timeless, look for free vintage roses. If you use these perennial favorites on your wedding invitations or favors, your friends and family will think you spent a fortune. These beautiful flowers come in many colors, so there’s bound to be an image or two that fits your color scheme. And in the end, is that not exactly what you want anyway? I know I sure do!

comic book series

While comic book series have been around since the 1930s, it wasn’t until the 1960s that something changed within the comic book industry, instigating widespread interest in comic book heroes and narratives. Some say it was Stan Lee’s re-envisioning of the industry, adding new psychological dimensions to his characters. Others say it was the teaming up of superhero teams and new plots that interested readers on another level. It could have also been the adaptation to television and movies that exposed comics to more people. Whatever the case, independent comic book stores popped up in the 1970s and 1980s, inspiring a new breed of ultimate fans: the comic collector.

A serious comic collector will need to be aware of what issues he or she has, as well as the condition of each piece. To keep track of large volumes, it’s recommended that you get comic book collection software to help you. These programs allow you to input new and existing comics into a personal database, quickly scan/search for certain criterion that buyers may be looking for, compile a wish list of items you want to include and determine the value of your collection. This can also help greatly when you’re listing your information on sites like www.ebay.com. New and bargain collectors can find free software to accomplish the basics at www.comiccollectorlive.com. For mid-level collectors, www.collectorz.com/comic offers improved ways of inputting new or existing comics and search capacity for $24.95 or $39.95 (pro version). For the hardcore collector, www.comicbase.com offers a variety of programs, ranging from $49.95 (express) to $299 (archive edition), allowing you the best ways to create wish lists and determine the value of your collection based on comic book industry standard criterion.

There are many places where a collector of comic books can buy or sell a comic book collection. Buyers can check comic book stores, the publishers’ websites (Marvel, DC Dark Horse, IDW), www.ebay.com, www.craigslist.org, www.milehighcomics.com, www.g-mart.com, www.comics-db.com, www.mycomicshop.com, www.amazon.com and Barnes & Noble. As can be expected, sellers can also unload their collections at many of these same places. At www.comicshoplocator.com, you can find a place to trade-in your old stash for quick cash, although this isn’t the way to make the best money. Auction houses are sometimes good, particularly if you have a full collection of a comic book series. You can find some at www.comics.heritageauctions.com, www.morphyauctions.com and www.christies.com. However, by far, the best way for a patient and savvy collector to sell is an internet auction like www.ebay.com, where top prices can be commanded.

A comic collector will naturally be curious about what old comic books are worth. Popular and respected guides include The Official Overstreet Comic Book Price Guide, Comics Buyer’s Guide magazine, Wizard Magazine, the Comics Buyer’s Guide Standard Catalog of Comic Books, and the Human Computing’s ComicBase software program. Online, comic collectors can also check out free resources like www.comicbookrealm.com, www.comicspriceguide.com or www.nostomania.com. At www.gpanalysis.com buyers can view price data gathered from online auction houses and private dealer sales, which are updated daily. Leveraging against several sources is usually the best way to determine an old comic’s true value.

This is a quick article about the placement of subliminal advertisement pictures by advertisers. Why businesses use them and how exactly they work.

If you look across the advertising world you will see countless examples of subliminal adverts from all markets and different kinds of products. Everyone from coca cola, to McDonalds, to local Bakers are using subliminal techniques!

These adverts arguably can bemanipulative; they give an extra level of depth. Often you are not aware of the hidden suggestion, however it gets registered on an unconscious levelby your brain anyway. Other times you may see an advert wondering what’s so appealing, or wondering what is not quite right with it – perhaps you even enter a bit of a trance looking at it!

These adverts try to suck you in, to keep your attention for a longer period of time than other adverts, and to firmly lodge the image in your mind. Often the easiest way to do this is to link the product to sex. This is can be as obvious as putting a beautiful girl in the advert, perhaps even with only a few clothes on. But sometimes the message is better hidden, i.e. subliminal.

For instance there is a famous advert from Coca Cola containing a subliminal image of a nude woman. She is not naked in the regular sense, but she is made out of ice. At first look you probably won’t see her, but she will be registered by your subconscious mind – if you look closer at the image you can see the outline of the woman lying down.

In an ever so slight way you are “attracted” to the product, and the brand. It makes Coca Cola a sexy product, a lively and energetic product. Perhaps just one poster like this won’t really do that much. However when they start to build up and Coca Cola constantly refer to the female form in their advertisements then it does make an impact and the female form / sex is linked to the brand. The final outcome is that Coca Cola is seen as a young, sexy brand, used by beautiful people.

It’s not just Coca Cola using subliminal messages, they can be seen everywhere. For more subliminal advertisement examples visit our blog.

DC Comics had a rather tumultuous beginning. Initially named the “National Allied Publications” in 1934, several comic book series were produced, such as “New Fun: The Big Comic Magazine” in February 1935, “New Comics” in December 1935, “Detective Comics” in 1937 and finally “Action Comics” in 1938. Ownership changed hands from Major Malcolm Wheeler-Nicholson, to his accountant and publisher partners Harry Donenfeld and Jack S. Liebowitz, who called their enterprise “DC Comics” (named after “Detective Comics”). As the new owner’s first endeavor, they sifted through the pile of rejected ideas and unearthed Superman.

After “the Golden Age of comic books” throughout the 30s and 40s, the owners of DC Comics waged a massive war against the comic book industry, usurping any smaller competing publications, suing imitators and aggressively driving out competition. However, by the 1950s, there was a lull in public demand for superhero stories and many of the graphic novels centered on science fiction stories, romance, westerns and a few tame crime stories. During the “Silver Age of comic books” in the mid-1950s, writers and publishers at DC came up with a new kind of superhero, one that fused the marvel of modern science with an ordinary man to create an accidental superhero; The Flash. Picking up on these themes, Stan Lee and Marvel Comic Books built their empire based on this idea of the “very human” superhero, which gave audiences something they could relate to.

After “the Silver Age of comic books” of the 1950s and 1960s came “the Bronze Age” of the 1970s and 1980s. The Silver Age had introduced characters who were more “human” and less stereotypical do-gooders. They, like humans, hosted a range of emotions, interacted with other humans and struggled with complex psyches. During the “Bronze Age,” darker and previously-off-limits themes of drug abuse, personal vices, inner conflict and anti-hero character development entered the comic realm. Kids were no longer the only readers, so the business savvy comic book creator had to address more serious themes of society, personality defects and science.

The 1980s began what is known as “the Modern Age of comic books,” which persists today. This “Modern Age” builds off the Bronze Age but delves even further into the darker side of graphic novels, intertwining sex, drugs, vices, psychological struggles, imperfect anti-heroes, cynicism and social critique. During this time, the DC Comics Batman’s The Dark Knight series takes off, X-Men launches into the complex back histories of their characters and the Mutants went to war against the humans, and a number of apocalyptic comics graphic novels came out, threatening the end of the world.

Over the years, the success of DC Comics has owed much to the Radio/TV/Film/Video Game enterprises, which helped catapult the old comic characters back into mainstream intrigue. The adaptation of superheroes has come a long way from the 1980s campy Batman TV series starring Adam West. Today, much care must be taken in creating superhero films that impress, such as “Spiderman” or “Batman’s The Dark Knight,” rather than “Daredevil” or “Catwoman.” There is always the danger of over-saturating the market with superhero films, thus negating the box office appeal of the genre, so comic book creators are generally very guarded about doling out the rights for such projects. When done right, though, the superhero film becomes a blockbuster, profit-driving empire that Major Malcolm Wheeler-Nicholson could have never imagined.

Jazz was born in the United States in the early 20th century, but originated in the l9th century in the South. The Atlantic Slave Trade brought over half a million Africans to America and with them came musical influences from their native land. As African americans learned to play European instruments in the 19th century and developed their own styles of music, like the cakewalk. The Cakewalk is a combination of harmony and syncopation. It became very popular and caught on among white folk, and was played in minstrel shows.

Toward the end of the 19th century, a new style of music emerged called ragtime. After the abolition of slavery, opportunities to learn opened up to many African americans. However, there were not many job openings. Many talented African-americans took jobs as musicians in minstral shows, in bars and clubs. Ragtime was created in the red-light districts of New Orleans and was a modifcation of the march, characterized by polyrhythms and syncopation. It was very upbeat and perfect for dancing. Ernest Hogan was a black entertainer who first recorded ragtime on sheet music in 1895. It became very popular new music and was even adopted by white musicians in America and in Europe. The ragtime is considered the first type of jazz music.

The ragtime carried its popularity into the 20th century. Small jazz groups began to travel and eventually spread the music from coast to coast. Jazz even traveled across the seas. During World War I, the “Hellfighters” infantry band carried ragtime to Europe. By the 1920’s Jazz had become the dominant genre of music in America. Jazz was associated with parties, extravagent behavior and drinking. The peak of Jazz music in the first half of the century lasted from 1920 to 1933. Many believed it was the cause of moral decay in American society. This period was the dubbed “The Jazz Age.”
By the 1930’s, ragtime had lost its novelty. A new grand and exaggerated form of jazz was introduced, the big band swing. Big band or swing jazz was composed of a very large section of brass and reed instruments and was headed by a bandleader or an arranger. Two of the most famous bandleaders were Duke Ellington and Glenn Miller.

In the 1940’s Swing Jazz introduced a string section and vocals to the big band. Swing jazz was broadcasted over the radio and soon travled to other countries. During World War II, for example, a collection of dissenting german youth known as the swing kids adopted swing jazz and swing culture. They would dance and play swing music in defiance to Hitler. He had forbidden any Swing Jazz or swing dancing because of its ties with African Americans and Jews.

During the 1950’s a type of jazz called “cool jazz” was preferred. The 1950’s was a decade of conservatism and the jazz music of the period definitely reflected that. Cool jazz was a toned-down version of jazz, where the big band reduced in size and sound.

The 1960’s and 1970’s saw a new form of jazz with the introduction of Latin cultural influence, rock and roll and soul. In the 1960’s, Afro-cuban jazz became popular, but was soon replaced by Brazilian Jazz. Latin jazz combined traditional jazz with unconventional instruments like bongos, morracas and different types of flute. Into the 1970’s soul jazz was formed from a mixture of soul, blues and gospel music. The unique thing about soul jazz was that the solo instrument was typically an organ, which was very new to jazz music. Finally, the 1970’s saw an explosive rise in rock and roll. Jimmy Hendrix was famous for infusing jazz with rock and roll and established a form of jazz – jazz infusion. In the recent history jazz has been experimented with and a plethora of subgenres have emerged like, pop fusion or “smooth jazz,” jazz rap, nu jazz and even vocal jazz.

The Romantic Era was the music of Western civilization in the 19th century. Some of the most notable composers of the Romantic Era were Beethoven, Berlioz, Brahms, Tchaikovsky, Schumann, Schubert, Chopin, and Wagner. Beethoven is the most difficult to place because much of his earlier compositions were in the classical style, while his later compositions were romantic. The ultimate goal of Romantic music was to attain freedom of design to express powerful human emotions through music.

Romantic music had its foundations in classical music, or music written in the classical style. Unlike much of the rock music of today, Romantic composers did not seek to create a new sound or stray from classical form, but to manipulate the rules in order to create more expressive and passionate new music. The structure of the classical form was very strict and limiting with what the composer could do musically. The romantics appreciated the form, but broke the limitations, adding or expanding sections of music that would not normally be allowed. Beethoven, for example, was the leader of separating from the classical form and tradition. In his controversial Symphony No. 9, Beethoven introduced vocalists, and a chorus into his final movement. In the classical form, this would not have been allowed. If a piece began as an instrumental piece, it was to remain and end as an instrumental piece.

The Romantic era did not only try the limits of classical form, but it also changed the form of the orchestra. As the musical range of work increased, the size of the orchestra increased with the addition of new instruments and larger sections. The tuba was added to the brass section. New valves for brass instruments were introduced and utilized to give the instruments a more flexible sound. The string section was enlarged to accentuate the sound and dramatic richness of the strings. Bongos and other less conventional percussion instruments were added to the orchestra as well.
Another aspect of Romantic music that separated it from its predecessor was its integration of literature and art into the pieces. This was called Program Music, or music that tells a story. There are three types of program music; the program symphony, the concert overture and the symphonic poem.

The program symphony is characterized by a recurring theme, as in Berlioz’s Symphonic Fantastique where a young man dreams about a woman who comes in the form of a melody which recurs in his mind indefinitely. The concert overture is a one movement piece intended for a performance at a concert. An example would be Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture, or Romeo and Juliet. The final type is the symphonic poem. The symphonic poem was invented by the romantic composer Franz Liszt. It is a one movement piece for orchestra, but the main theme is transformed (thematic transformation) in mood and character. The piece which introduced this type of program music was called Hamlet.

Two very popular forms of music during the Romantic Era were suites and waltzes. Suites were related pieces gathered together for a performance of a play, such as Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake, The Nutcracker and Sleeping Beauty. The waltz was the most popular dance in the nineteen century, so the composers responded to demand and produced many.

The chief characteristics of the Romantic Era are the dramatic contrasts of dynamics and pitch, large orchestra (due mostly to brass), the freedom of powerful emotional expression, new shape and form from recurring and transforming themes and nationalism.

One of the top two ways of doing that is via music. Humans have been attracted to music almost since the beginning of mankind. The reasons are very clear. Music is very soothing and helps evoke emotions.

The Internet has helped advance music even further by giving people access to an incredible variety and depth of new music on the cheap. People have developed an incredible infrastructure around music and the ability to consume music. The latest songs all have very popular music video renditions.

Music news is widely followed and musical artists are held in idol like status. The reason for this is clear. They fill a very important need in our lives. Top artists produce tunes that we are drawn to and tunes that entertain us. He has decided to cast his new girlfriend in the next music video, to mutual advantage.

Amber Rose, his girlfriend accompanied him in all the shows at Paris Fashion Week. The shining pate model has been cast as robotic police official in his next video release “Robocop”, making the people wonder, if this latest relationship of theirs is only a ploy to promote their video. The waning popularity of Kanye West could very well be the reason behind his going around with her and having her in his video, to arouse people’s curiosity to watch the chemistry between the two. Whatever be the doubts in the minds of the public, Amber Rose seems to be rating Kanye high and her friends seem to approve of their relationship. They feel that both of them being popular figures, should be good for each other. A typical case of who is promoting whom. Her friends also opine that travelling with Kanye all the time is not going to be easy, what with the gossip-hungry paparazzi surrounding him wherever he goes. But knowing the nature of Rose, she will take them in her stride and remain unaffected and they felt that since she shares good vibes with him, she is not going to complain. Here is wishing the two of them good luck.
