Would you like to play lead guitar, but you’re not sure where to start? This lead guitar lesson hopefully will explain the easiest and quickest way to get started with lead guitar and improvisation. Improvising relies upon playing the right sounding notes over the musical backing piece or backing track. The question is; how do you know what notes will sound good? Well, it’s actually pretty easy, but to many people the idea of learning scales is a little scary, difficult or just plain boring. There is no way around it, if you want to improvise on the guitar, the easiest way is to know a few basic scales and how to apply them.

To play lead guitar and improvise, it is important to learn a few basic scales, the best starting point being the minor pentatonic scale. This is the most valuable tip from this lead guitar lesson. This scale is generally regarded as the centre of the rock and blues universe but is also used in many other styles of music. If you had to pick just one scale to learn for lead guitar, this would be the best choice. But there are so many scales used in music, why pick this one?

The minor pentatonic scale is used frequently for guitar solos. Chances are, when you hear a guitar solo on the radio, it most likely contains the notes of the minor pentatonic scale. This scale is used commonly in blues, rock and many other types of music.

By adding a note or two to this scale you can create many other scales and modes. It is the scale that many other scales are constructed around. These include the Aeolian mode or natural minor scale as well as the Dorian mode and blues scale. These scales and modes are very useful and will be discussed in more detail in future lead guitar lessons.

By learning the minor pentatonic scale, it is extremely easy to also learn the major pentatonic scale at the same time. The scale shapes on the fretboard are the same for both scales, the shapes simply sit in a different position as too do the root notes. The major pentatonic scale is also a very useful scale for lead guitarists.

The minor pentatonic scale is very versatile. In fact, it is one of the few scales that can be played over minor and major chord progressions. When applied properly it can be played over most chord progressions and sound good.

The last point in this lead guitar lesson is probably the most important one. The minor pentatonic scale is easy to learn! It only contains five notes. When the notes are arranged on the fretboard they form five box shape patterns which are also easy to memorise. By learning these box shapes you can add additional notes to create other scales or shift the shapes up and down the neck to play in different keys. Learning this scale is the easiest way to get started with lead guitar and will form a solid and essential foundation for all future playing.

If you’re into playing the guitar, then you certainly must have heard about guitar effects pedals. Another preferred name for these guitar effects pedals is actually the stomp box. Unarguably, a guitar effects pedal is really an electronic effects unit utilised by plenty of musicians, particularly those who play the guitar. This unit has a housing made from metal or plastic frame. Guitar effects pedals are used to change the sounds generated by electrical guitars. But what precisely do guitar effects pedals alter? The timber of the electric signal, for one thing, is changed by the guitar effects pedal. The standard of the sound produced is also changed.

The classic set of guitar effects pedals is capable of giving such effects : distortion, chorus, fizz, reverberation, overdrive, flagging, wah-wah, pitch shifting, also known as phase. Whatever effect you need to achieve, these guitar effects pedals are the top choice of guitarists. This is usually because the pedals are very suitable to use. The operative word here being pedals, it is clear that all of the guitar player has to do is stomp on the pedal accordingly, to get the particular effect he wants to have. Some guitar effects pedals come with a treadle called a potentiometer. The potentiometer is controlled by rocking the treadle in a back and forth motion.

In connecting guitar effects pedals, 2 2-conductor wires are required. These instrument wires should have jack plugs also. The input jack is placed on the right side of the instrument, and the output jack is on its left. With this placement, the signal goes from right to left. This is the common setup of guitar effects pedals. But these guitar effects pedals may also be connected to one another, as though in a chain. All that needs to be added to the equation is the guitar amplifier Direct Inject line-level tap jack. This setup makes things more handy, particularly for a band that has a large amount of guitarists. This kind of band would customarily have a bass guitar strummer, a lead guitar strummer, and a rhythm guitar strummer.

But you should additionally be careful with the utilization of guitar effects pedals too. You see, when there are too many guitar effects pedals employed in the equation, this would basically introduce noise into the music generated. There also that aggravating humming sound in the background. Should this occur, you really have the choice of employing a noise gate pedal. This device decreases that unwelcome noise from the equation.

If you’ve enjoyed all the exciting information you read here about On-line Guitar Lessons, you’ll love everything else you find at Best Guitar Lesson.

Guitar lesson books can be found for fairly cheap and there are usually quite a few decent books about. They can be ineffective for many people however as you can’t watch or listen to any of the examples taught.

Video Guitar Lessons

They can come as an online video or as a DVD and are available from many music stores as well as online stores too.

Fender guitars are an American icon, and are/were played by some of the best guitarists of all time. What most people don’t think about is the amount of skill and artistic talent needed to create these instruments in the first place. The National Association of Manufacturers has a video showing how custom Fender guitars are made and tested by a Master Builder Apprentice.

Even though it’s a couple of years old and not very long (under 3 minutes), the glimpse into the day of a Fender guitar maker is impressive and worth viewing: Making Custom Fender Guitars.
